Northampton Township
First settled by English immigrants who came with William Penn in the late 1600's, Northampton Township — one of 54 municipalities within Bucks County — was named after a small town outside of London called Northamptonshire and incorporated in 1722. It remained a farming community until development began in the 1950's, although it remained fairly rural until the 1970's. Consisting of 26 square miles that include the towns of Churchville, Richboro, Holland and Ivyland, Northampton Township is located 12 miles from Philadelphia, where a significant number of residents commute to work. Because of its excellent Council Rock school district and proximity to major arteries, Northampton Township is considered a desirable community for those who work in Center City Philadelphia, Northeast Philadelphia, King of Prussia and Willow Grove Pennsylvania, as well as Trenton, Princeton, Lawrenceville and Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
